HI,Alan were down in Petbliss he really didn't get a lot in ,I certainly got three very nice fish all of which fed well this evening . he had a good few 3 to 4 inch koi don't know weather they were jap or not 15 euro each . they are all coming in through Handlys in the uk so may be English koi breed from jap parents , this is the same company that Gavin in Newlands deals with . personally I would find it hard to beat what he brought in this season

Robert which fish in the photos are what type "the Sanke and Kohaku are doitsu which makes them a much nicer fish in my mind and the Shusui ,very interested, shame they couldn't be got at around 12in max size for smaller ponds, the variety of colours with koi is amazing...

Hi Nomad , the red black and white fish is the sanke , the red and white fish is the kohaku , and the smaller orange and blue grey with the big scales on its back is the shusui. The sanke and the kohaku are about 12 inches long and 2 year old , the shusui is 9/10 Inches long proberly from last years spawn , at this age colours are beginning to settle in . Its a pity that they grow so big , i have had them in the past up to about 28 inches long

The japanese can grow koi to 24inches in 3 years in their mud pools. The national fisheries place in Roscrea can get common and mirror carp up to 12lbs in 2 years , the fish are sold by weight . Was in this place 2 years ago and got a great tour of the set up . You have to get a liecence from their hq in swords to purchase fish . Their main bussiness is spawning and growing on trout and salmon

Dont know about the jap way ,but Roscrea use heated vats with auto feeders feeding 8 times a day with a constant water change system , very expensive i would think
