Hi

I have a 180 litre tank. 20kg of live rock ,external filter aquis 1250, wave maker. I have cleaning crew ,clownfish and damsel fish.

i was wondering is it worth my while to invest in a sump. I was going to get a Hang on protein skimmer.

i dont know much about the sump system in where you buy one and what size i need. I would love you advise guys.
thanks

With that bioload I wouldnt bother, just add the skimmer and that should do it.

Sumps are mainly use to hide stuff from the display tank (such as skimmers, heaters, etc), to increase the total volume of water and to improve/increase filtration.

+1 on the advice. If not already drilled then you would need an overflow, piping etc in order to sump your current tank. a lot of work for possibly little return.
If wanting to hide the heater you could buy an in-line one for your external. I have one on mine and it is very stable and keeps the temp spot on
Unless planning to keep corals the skimmer is also not a complete necessity. I ran my tank with softies for quite a while without any and no problems

If it's not broke don't try fix it I ran my rio 240 on a external and a hob skimmer with no issues for a full year until I upgraded, and on another note you won't get the water as clear with a sump as you would with externals I had 2 one at each end nothing in one but floss and it looked like their was no water in it at all, have to say I miss that
