Ok, just a quick question... remind me folks, are the pillows labeled "hypoallergenic" the ones that are ok to use? Or not?

You get more for less out of a pillow. I've seen two pillows for €5 on offer. Besides, not all pet shops do big bags of floss but there's a dunnes across from me where I can get the pillows.

If they are 100% polyester you shouldn't have a problem Aldi have them every now and again for €5.99

Here I go digging up old threads again
I was wondering, are pillows safe to use as filter medium? I ask because I think that by law items like that are required to be treated by fire retardant and the chemicals might be hazardous to fish. I could be wrong though, perhaps they aren't, but certainly beds, sofas, armchairs etc etc are.

Pillows are safe. Some are sprayed with chemicals for various benefits but your regular common or garden pillow filling can be used as filter floss. Lasts ages.

I'd be concerned that they use bleach to whiten pillow stuffing.

Bleach isn't an issue. They don't tend to put something so harsh in something you will possibly lying face down in. If it isn't flame retardant then it should be fine. If you can clarify that it's 100% polyester then it should be good. And a lot cheaper than the aquarium specific stuff. Once they slap the word 'aquarium' onto anything the price seems to quadruple.
