Amano shrimp offspring? was created by Olaf (Olaf Schmidt)
Hi all,
A question for the freshwater shrimp experts. I bought Amano shrimps about 6 weeks ago, the very first animals in a new, aquascaped tank (200 l). Contains large root with algae on it and lots of plants. This week I spotted several tiny baby shrimp! However, a few websites I checked say this species will only reproduce successfully with a brackish water phase.
So, is this perhaps not the species I was told it is (see picture of adult)? Or could eggs have come in with plants? Or is it Amano and they breed? I can even see babies swim (see picture), just like the adults.
Thanks,
Olaf

Where did you buy them from to begin with?

It was Seahorse Aquariums. You’d think they know what the sell, no?
