Which external filter , was created by robert (robert carter)
Just looking for your thoughts about this , am thinking of upgradeing one of the externals on my 350 litre community tropical tank . It is very much overstocked . Present set up is one jbl crystal profti 1500e , the other filter is an aqua one cf1200 now two years old ,this is the unit i am thinking of upgradeing as the output from this filter is very poor even after a good clean . Now the two contenders are the Fluval fx6 output 2100 litres an hour cost 299 euro or the jbl crysral profti 1900 e output 1900 litres an hour cost 249 euro with a four year warrenty . So which is the best unit .

I've an fx 6 on my trigon 350 currently! I'm looking at either a second fx6 or possibly an fx4 as a second filter

Hi Hammie , thanks for your reply , so you think the fx6 is better? I was sort of going for the jbl because of the 4 year warrenty and that sh keep a good range of spares, however on the other hand the fx6 is totally self priming , but has a much smaller media capacity . The more research i do the the confussed i get . Robert

I like the media baskets of the fx range and find them very easy to use! Also the drain on the fx6 I find very very useful for both filling and emptying the water for quick small changes! I'll be honest tho, the jbl range does appeal..... but I'm a fan of the fx range

I can't comment on the JBL 1900e your thinking about as I've never used one but any experience I have had with a JBL filter (2 to be exact)has being good so I would never hesitate personally in buying any of there products, and that also applies to Eheim and Fluval filters I have used.........but the Fluval FX6 is just that little bit better than any other filter I have used in my opinion........well worth its price as far as i'm concerned!!

I have always used fluval canisters over the years and think they are great. The flow rate never diminishes. I have one that is 8 years and still going. If I had to buy a bigger filter or was in your shoes it would be without doubt the fx6.

What did you go for in the end? I never had a jbl 1901 but have a few 1501s they are very good. I have 2 fx6s on 440 litre tanks and i have to say they are workhorses. The only thing is you dont want to turn your tank into a washing machine.!

Hi just to reply to this , well i didnt go for anything , i spoke to Darren in sh and he advised that the 1901 crystal profi filter would produce to much current in the tank and also said the 1901 is much noiser that the 1501 . So in the end i didnt replace anything
