Have u ever being in a pet shop where u wanted to tell the people don't
buy all them goldfish and put them into a tiny bowl. Myself i struggled to keep
quite or bite my tongue, i seen this happen a few days ago.
I know not all pet shops are the same
but its a pity to see such poor advice only to get the extra sale and the few euro out of a person.

Something fishie going on here

Sadly most of the shop assistants in the pet stores have very little 'fish' knowledge (unfortunately) and it appears that little is done to help educate them to obtain it either.

It seems to me that - with one or two exceptions - not many employees 'stay' very long there either.

Not really sure what the solution might be.

It's much the same with the Pet Stores across the water as well.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl - year after year.

I have experienced this many times James.

The worst was a bloke trying to sell a woman the little Betta tank think it's 12 litres comes with the light back chamber filter and says you can put as many Betta's in it as you want.

The problem lies with the fact that most of the small privately owned fish shops have closed down and people are shopping in the retail pet stores and in turn the staff being hired are mostly young people looking for a summer job or just fresh out of school and taking a year out I suppose the term I'm looking for is casual staff who really don't know the first thing about fish keeping.

I'm not saying that some retail pet stores don't have good staff I have met some dedicated and knowledgeable staff in some of these pet stores but unfortunately there is not enough of them compared to the casual staff who don't know the basics of fish keeping.

I live in south Dublin and I have 3 retail pet stores close and only one dedicated professional fish store.
