What will Discus eat
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Having trouble getting 2 discus to eat they don't appear to be fast enough to get to the food (frozen bloodworms )
Should I trust mince beef or something else?

I've never kept discus but I see from another post that you just bought the discus. As with all new fish it takes a few days maybe even weeks for them to settle in to a new tank. You could call seahorse and ask what they feed their discus and you use the same until they settle in. What other fish are in the tank with them. Adult discus will eventually dominant a tank but youngsters can be very shy.

They love beefheart, the problem with it is once they start eating it they might not want to eat anything else, 2 fish might not feel too secure as they like to be in larger groups, what else have u got in the tank

4 rainbow's,3 flame guramies,2 bristlenose plecos,10 rummy nose tetra, 1 beta, & 3 guppies
And 2 discus
A bit of a mix. They seem pretty happy now after a few days, push each other about every now and again ( the discus I mean ).eating beef heart and tetra prime now.

Beef heart and tetra prime should be all you need for feeding them but I would consider if possible to move some of the fish you have in with them on.......I don't know the size of your tank but I personally would get rid of the Rainbows,Gourami's,Betta and Guppies and add a few more Discus and have a much larger group of Rummynoses, but that would be all dependant on tank size though and of course is just what I would do.............i'll assume all fish are tank bred so if your happy with the mix you have then keep it that way ok
All the best

Aqua one 100.
Great filter, water parameters spot on
But no room for more Discus, unless I get bigger tank
