Cutting moss?

Is there a correct way to cut moss I went to do it a few times and ended up with a mess in the tank. When I moved my tank I was able to give it a good trim as the wood was removed from the think it's near impossible to remove it now without uprooting half my plants.

I've tried pulling it put it just feels like the moss is coming apart from the wood rather than breaking apart. I don't have aqua scaping scissors just some safety scissors made for kids  .

Hard to get a good photo. Any way to does this cleanly I no if I leave it the moss on the wood will die off.

any sharp scissors will do, a curved one will make it easier but is not necessary, cut it back hard, start at one end and work your way across, like sheep shearing!
oh and turn your filter / wavemakers etc off first to avoid the cuttings floating all over the place, let them float to the top and you can net them out. easier than pulling them out from intakes and impellers etc!

First time I tried it the filter blew the cuttings all over the place so I gave up. Water change tomorrow so I will tackle the moss then. How do you manage moss with floating plants I was considering removing them which would make it easier to net the moss.
Thanks again Joe I'll let you no how I get on :p .

Update: I did it. I made a balls of it but it's done :D there is one bold spot but I don't mind as the moss I attached in the first place was smaller then an iphone so it should be patched in a couple weeks .

I think I will invest in a good scissors as the one I used made it awkward to reach and view at the same time. Thanks for the filter/power head tip Joe although it should have been common sense I only wish it floated as much as I taught it would :D. Photo 2 is how much I got off of the wood.
